Les trois vagues de grèves qui se succèdent au Creusot entre mai 1899 et juillet 1900 sont loin d’être isolées. Le tournant du siècle est agité par des grèves nombreuses et retentissantes, dont plusieurs sont menées à quelques kilomètres de là par les mineurs de Montceau-les-Mines.
